Sigma Technology is an active partner contributing to the development of Linnaeus University’s course on Digital Product Passports for Sustainable Value Chains. The course is the first in Sweden to connect academic research, practical workshops, and industry needs to strengthen Swedish businesses ahead of the upcoming EU requirements for Digital Product Passports (DPP). The course is delivered within the framework of the Expert Competence Smart Industry initiative, which aims to enhance Sweden’s competitiveness.

The EU’s Circular Economy Action Plan and the new EU Regulation on Ecodesign for Sustainable Products (ESPR) mean that digital product passports will soon become mandatory. The purpose is to create traceability, transparency, and sustainable value chains by giving every product placed on the EU market a unique digital identity. This will affect companies in nearly all industries and means that all products entering the EU market will need to have a digital product passport.

There is a significant need for competence. Many Swedish companies—particularly small and medium-sized enterprises—lack sufficient knowledge of both the legislation and the digital processes required to implement DPP solutions effectively. When digital product passports become mandatory, companies without the right competencies risk losing ground in the EU market—both commercially and in terms of regulatory compliance.

“Many companies are waiting until the legislation comes into force and view it as a regulatory burden. This is often due to a lack of knowledge about the EU requirements and the absence of digital traceability systems. During our workshops, we demonstrate that DPP is not only about compliance — it can also become a driver for circular transition, strengthen customer trust, improve traceability, and open new business opportunities. When academia and industry collaborate, we can provide companies with the tools to both understand and apply the requirements in practice,” says Niklas Malmros, CEO of Sigma Technology Solutions Group.

Linnaeus University’s education program is Sweden’s first structured competence-development course in digital product passports with a clear focus on industry. The program demonstrates how EU requirements translate into practical tasks related to data, architecture, and value chains. The course was developed and is delivered in close collaboration with industry and ecosystem partners, including Sigma Technology, Lingon, Interior Cluster Sweden, and GS1. This ensures that participants gain practically relevant knowledge that reflects both current and upcoming demands within real value chains. The course is funded by the Knowledge Foundation (KK‑stiftelsen) and is part of the Expert Competence Smart Industry initiative.

“With this course, we want to move digital product passports from abstract EU regulation to concrete practice in Swedish companies. By combining research-based insights with hands-on workshops, we help managers and specialists understand what data they actually need, how to structure it, and how DPPs can support both compliance and new circular business opportunities. Our ambition is that participants leave with a clear roadmap for their own value chains – not just more information,” says Fisnik Dalipi, PhD, course responsible at Linnaeus University.

About the course

The course is offered as a freestanding skills development course (3 credits) at Linnaeus University in Växjö and is aimed at professionals with at least a bachelor’s degree and experience from industry or the public sector. More information about content, dates, and application is available on Linnaeus University’s website:

Sigma Technology Group has become a sponsor of Star for Life’s newly launched Young Entrepreneurs Program, a pioneering initiative designed to strengthen entrepreneurial skills, financial literacy, and long-term economic resilience among girls in South Africa.

South Africa is facing one of its most challenging decades for young jobseekers, with youth unemployment climbing from 36.9% in 2015 to 46.1% in 2025 and soaring as high as 62.4% among those aged 15–24. At the same time, girls and young women continue to bear a disproportionate share of this crisis, with nearly half of women aged 15–34 classified as NEET (Not in Employment, Education, or Training), underscoring the urgent need for targeted, skills-building initiatives that open real pathways to economic participation and financial independence.

The Young Entrepreneurs Program is a targeted, one-year entrepreneurship program for girls aged 14–18, aiming to spark entrepreneurial thinking as a pathway to financial independence, self-confidence, and protection against challenges linked to poverty and social vulnerability.

Creating Sustainable Impact for Girls and Their Communities

The new initiative builds on Star for Life’s Girls Club program, which aims to foster a generation of strong, independent women. The Young Entrepreneurs Program equips participants with practical business knowledge, from business ideation to marketing, sales, financial literacy, and basic record keeping.

Through hands-on learning and real-life market activities, participants will gain tools to launch small but sustainable income-generating ventures in their local communities, while also developing leadership skills and belief in their own capabilities.

The program will initially be piloted at two schools, with each school hosting a cohort of six girls, forming a total of twelve inaugural participants. The long-term ambition is to expand the program to additional schools as more partners join the initiative.

“I am deeply grateful that Sigma Technology is partnering up with us to support the next generation of female micro-entrepreneurs. This represents Star for Life at its best, and it is a cause close to my heart: empowering girls to become independent, to earn their living, and to gain the financial freedom to stand on their feet and, when necessary, leave destructive relationships,” says Jessica Grundström Ahldin, Secretary General at Star for Life.

Sigma Technology’s Contribution to Star for Life

Sigma Technology has been an active partner of Star for Life since 2015, sponsoring the organization’s motivational and health programs in three South African schools: Mmemezi High School, Nibela Primary School, and Nompondo Primary School. The partnership is driven by Sigma Technology employees, known as Star for Life Ambassadors.

These ambassadors lead initiatives that support students during their school years, through graduation, and into further education. As part of the Young Entrepreneurs Program, Sigma Technology’s ambassadors will contribute through experience sharing, knowledge exchange, and long-term collaboration with Star for Life’s local teams.

“Entrepreneurship is one of Sigma Technology’s core building blocks, which is why becoming a partner in this program felt like a natural step. We are proud to deepen our partnership with Star for Life through this important initiative. Giving young girls the tools to build their own futures is one of the most impactful investments we can make. We believe this program will not only empower individuals but also strengthen entire communities,” says Carl Vikingsson, CEO at Sigma Technology Group.

Sigma Technology is collaborating with Telia, RISE, the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket), Svevia, and Halmstad University in an innovation project CyberInfra aimed at reducing dangerous roadwork-related accidents.

Approximately every fifth day, a TMA vehicle is hit on Swedish roads. A TMA truck (Truck-Mounted Attenuator) is a specialized vehicle equipped with crash cushions and digital signs that warn and guide road users through roadwork zones. In 2022 alone, 70 such collisions occurred, several of which resulted in injuries. Now, Sigma Technology Embedded Network, together with Telia, RISE, Trafikverket, Svevia, and Halmstad University, is launching a major innovation project to significantly reduce these incidents using 5G technology, real-time data, and intelligent digital signage.

Within the CyberInfra project, today’s static warning signs on TMA vehicles are being transformed into intelligent, connected units that automatically adapt warnings based on traffic flow and send real-time information to both road users and traffic control centers.

“Every collision is a potential tragedy. With 5G-based communication and real-time data, we can warn faster and prevent accidents before they happen,” says Danilo Chinchilla, President at Sigma Technology Embedded Network.

The technology builds on 5G Standalone (SA), part of Telia and Ericsson’s joint innovation program NorthStar. 5G SA is critical, enabling dedicated network slicing, lower latency, and robust connectivity for safety-critical functions.

The project also includes developing blockchain-based data protection and advanced PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) solutions to ensure that traffic information remains traceable, tamper-proof, and safely usable in central mobility systems.

“If we could scale up this solution, we would see safer roadworks not only for the people working there but also for other motorists,” says Johannes Berg, Innovation Manager at the Swedish Transport Administration.

Watch a video from the project:

More About the CyberInfra Project

  • CyberInfra is funded by Vinnova through the “Advanced Digitalisation” program and runs until spring 2026.
  • The project transforms the TMA vehicle’s digital signage from static warning systems into intelligent, 5G-connected units. By combining real-time data with sensors such as cameras and radar, the signs can dynamically update warnings based on current traffic conditions while sending insights back to the traffic control center. This enables secure two-way communication between roadwork vehicles, central traffic systems, and road users with the goal of reducing accidents and improving working conditions.
  • Blockchain-based immutability and PKI are key components in ensuring secure and reliable data communication for critical road traffic infrastructure.
  • Testing is carried out at RISE’s AstaZero proving ground for automated transport systems as well as in real-world roadwork environments. These tests aim to evaluate the effectiveness of the new infrastructure and provide valuable insights for developing future digital traffic systems.
  • CyberInfra builds on previous feasibility studies focused on improving the safety of TMA-based roadwork closures.

WiTech, Kronoberg’s first women’s tech network, has appointed Amelie Olsen, Unit Manager at Sigma Technology Informatics Solutions, as its new Chairwoman. At the same time, Sigma Technology renews its commitment as main sponsor — further strengthening its focus on gender equality and inclusion in the tech industry.

With over 250 members from 30 companies across Kronoberg and Kalmar, WiTech has grown into a strong meeting place for women in IT and technology. Founded in 2017 in Växjö, the network’s goal is to inspire more girls and women to pursue a career in tech and to build bridges between students, academia, and industry.

Diversity, equality, and inclusion are essential to a workplace where everyone feels safe and motivated. I want to drive WiTech forward by creating more opportunities for collaboration and knowledge sharing, and by showing that a gender-equal tech industry is a stronger tech industry,” says Amelie Olsen.

New initiative: WiTech takes over “IT Woman of the Year”

Starting in 2025, WiTech—together with Linnaeus University—will be responsible for the “IT Woman of the Year” award in the Linnaeus region. The prize is awarded to a woman who actively works for inclusion and diversity and who inspires more people to choose a career in IT.

Highlighting female role models is crucial to attracting the next generation of talent to the industry. ‘IT Woman of the Year’ is our major initiative to increase gender equality in the region,” says Amelie Olsen.

Sigma Technology continues support as main sponsor

Sigma Technology Informatics Solutions has long supported WiTech through mentorship programs, youth initiatives, and networking events. With the renewed sponsorship, the company strengthens its position as one of Sweden’s leading actors in advancing gender equality in the tech sector.

We are proud to stand behind WiTech and its important work. Continuing our sponsorship is a natural step for us. It is important to be strategic in our partnerships, and WiTech’s efforts go hand in hand with our own initiatives such as Femmegineering. Together, we can accelerate the development of a more equal and sustainable industry,” says Daniel Björkman, President at Sigma Technology Informatics Solutions.
