Sweden takes a significant step toward the future of autonomous mobility. Sigma Technology has developed a Steer-by-Wire simulator—a breakthrough platform that enables automakers to safely test and validate intelligent vehicles and Drive-by-Wire control systems.

The simulator provides a complete driver environment — from hand-wheel actuators and control algorithms to communication and diagnostics. This technology replaces traditional mechanical steering with intelligent actuators, unlocking new possibilities for safety, flexibility, and design freedom.

“Steer-by-Wire will redefine how we experience driving,” says Mattias Gudasic, CTO at Sigma Technology Embedded Solutions. “Our simulator enables safe, fast validation of these next-generation systems and positions Swedish engineering at the heart of the autonomous revolution.”

Steer-by-Wire systems are still emerging and are used today by only a few pioneers. At the same time, the system is a necessity to enable autonomous driving. Sigma Technology’s platform helps accelerate wider adoption by creating a safe and efficient testbed for automakers and Tier 1 suppliers developing autonomous vehicle control systems and working with ASIL-D-level systems — the highest safety classification in automotive engineering.

“Our goal is to build a development and validation platform that supports innovation across the industry,” adds Mattias Gudasic. “By combining expertise in functional safety and system design, we’re creating a foundation for future intelligent drive systems.”

Sigma Technology’s Steer-by-Wire simulator is available for demonstration at the company’s Jönköping office and can be showcased at technology events or customer sites. For more information, please contact Mattias Gudasic.

Sigma Technology is collaborating with Telia, RISE, the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket), Svevia, and Halmstad University in an innovation project CyberInfra aimed at reducing dangerous roadwork-related accidents.

Approximately every fifth day, a TMA vehicle is hit on Swedish roads. A TMA truck (Truck-Mounted Attenuator) is a specialized vehicle equipped with crash cushions and digital signs that warn and guide road users through roadwork zones. In 2022 alone, 70 such collisions occurred, several of which resulted in injuries. Now, Sigma Technology Embedded Network, together with Telia, RISE, Trafikverket, Svevia, and Halmstad University, is launching a major innovation project to significantly reduce these incidents using 5G technology, real-time data, and intelligent digital signage.

Within the CyberInfra project, today’s static warning signs on TMA vehicles are being transformed into intelligent, connected units that automatically adapt warnings based on traffic flow and send real-time information to both road users and traffic control centers.

“Every collision is a potential tragedy. With 5G-based communication and real-time data, we can warn faster and prevent accidents before they happen,” says Danilo Chinchilla, President at Sigma Technology Embedded Network.

The technology builds on 5G Standalone (SA), part of Telia and Ericsson’s joint innovation program NorthStar. 5G SA is critical, enabling dedicated network slicing, lower latency, and robust connectivity for safety-critical functions.

The project also includes developing blockchain-based data protection and advanced PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) solutions to ensure that traffic information remains traceable, tamper-proof, and safely usable in central mobility systems.

“If we could scale up this solution, we would see safer roadworks not only for the people working there but also for other motorists,” says Johannes Berg, Innovation Manager at the Swedish Transport Administration.

Watch a video from the project:

More About the CyberInfra Project

  • CyberInfra is funded by Vinnova through the “Advanced Digitalisation” program and runs until spring 2026.
  • The project transforms the TMA vehicle’s digital signage from static warning systems into intelligent, 5G-connected units. By combining real-time data with sensors such as cameras and radar, the signs can dynamically update warnings based on current traffic conditions while sending insights back to the traffic control center. This enables secure two-way communication between roadwork vehicles, central traffic systems, and road users with the goal of reducing accidents and improving working conditions.
  • Blockchain-based immutability and PKI are key components in ensuring secure and reliable data communication for critical road traffic infrastructure.
  • Testing is carried out at RISE’s AstaZero proving ground for automated transport systems as well as in real-world roadwork environments. These tests aim to evaluate the effectiveness of the new infrastructure and provide valuable insights for developing future digital traffic systems.
  • CyberInfra builds on previous feasibility studies focused on improving the safety of TMA-based roadwork closures.

Sigma Technology Solutions Group has signed Växjö Declaration, Växjö municipality’s cross-sector pledge tied to the “Sustainable Växjö 2030” program, joining 80+ local actors accelerating the region’s climate-neutral and inclusive growth agenda.

Being among “Europe’s greenest cities,” Växjö aims to be fossil-fuel free and climate-neutral by 2030, backed by a Climate City Contract and decades of concrete action in renewable energy, efficient district heating, and sustainable urban development. With more than 99% renewable heat since 2020, Växjö combines climate action with steady growth — a strong platform for companies to scale sustainable solutions in collaboration with regional partners, Linnaeus University, and the industry.

Sigma Technology Solutions Group has signed Växjödeklarationen, Växjö municipality’s cross-sector sustainability pledge connected to Sustainable Växjö 2030.

Växjö shows what real, local climate leadership looks like – collaboration, measurable progress, and a practical roadmap to 2030. By signing Växjödeklarationen, we are committing our people and our know-how to help customers and partners decarbonize operations, build resilient supply chains, and create inclusive growth in Kronoberg,” says Niklas Malmros, CEO, Sigma Technology Solutions Group.

He continues: “It gives us a clear framework, a network of peers, and a city that’s already delivering on climate goals. That combination helps our teams prototype with customers faster, prove impact in Växjö, and then scale what works across Sweden and the Nordics.

Sigma Technology has been operating in Växjö since 2002 and is an active player supporting the region’s municipal, educational, and societal initiatives promoting Växjö’s and Kronoberg’s competitiveness by partnering with Växjö commun, Linnaeus university, and Företagsfabriken.

About Växjö’s sustainability trajectory

The municipality’s sustainability program, Hållbara Växjö 2030,sets five goal areas and tracks progress through over 50 indicators published annually. Växjö’s green transition is underpinned by long-standing investments in renewables (including bio-based district heating) and a formal Climate City Contract to reach climate neutrality by 2030.

Växjö hosts two public signing events each year (Earth Week in the spring and the MAT week in September) and now counts over 80 signatories, providing companies with a concrete framework and an active network of peers to accelerate implementation.

Sigma Technology IT Group, part of Sigma Technology Group, has signed a framework agreement with Sveriges Radio to deliver IT consulting services. The agreement is part of Sveriges Radio’s long-term skills provision strategy and aims to strengthen the organization with specialized expertise for current needs and future growth.

Sigma Technology has collaborated with Sveriges Radio as a subcontractor for the past three years, including supporting the company on its cloud journey. Sigma Technology IT Group is now one of three awardees in the new framework agreements for IT consulting services. The agreement runs for two years with an option to extend for an additional two.

Under the framework agreement, Sigma Technology will contribute expertise in IT infrastructure, software development, digitalization, and cloud-based solutions. The services cover both deep technical knowledge and leadership to support Sveriges Radio’s ongoing development and innovation.

Sveriges Radio is continuously forming new teams and complementing its in-house organization with external specialists. Through the collaboration with Sigma Technology, the company gains access to experienced consultants who can drive development projects, strengthen existing teams, and add know-how in emerging technology areas.

This is a very important partnership for us. Sveriges Radio is a key player in society with high demands on technology, accessibility, and security. Being one of three winners in this tender shows that our combined strengths in cloud, digitalization, and IT are a perfect fit for their needs. We look forward to contributing to their development by delivering both specialist knowledge and leadership in complex projects,” says Rashin Kabodvand, President at Sigma Technology Cloud and account lead for the framework agreement.

This is an important milestone in our journey to offer broad, high-quality solutions in digitalization and sustainable development. We are proud of the trust placed in us by Sveriges Radio and to be one of their selected suppliers of IT consulting services,” says Johan Edlund, CEO of Sigma Technology IT Group.

Sigma Technology IT Group is part of Sigma Technology Group AB and is one of the Nordic region’s leading consulting companies in Cloud, Digitalization, Software Development, and IT. The new framework agreement further strengthens the company’s position as a key partner to mission-critical operations in Sweden and across the Nordics.
