Women in Technology: interview with Anikó Simon, information engineer

Tell us about your role.

I am an information engineer, working on the Customer Product Information (CPI) for our client. As a member of the maintenance team, I mainly solve tickets: I correct CPI errors, add missing information, and make the CPI more understandable and user-friendly for the customer. It is also my job to increase the quality of the documentation and make sure that it has a unified appearance for the next release.

What do you value most in your work? What excites you most?

I think I have an interesting job: it’s full of exciting, new challenges (there are no two identical problems), and requires problem-solving skills, creativity, and accuracy.

I like the process of gathering the necessary information to solve a problem, then making the collected information understandable for the customer, and giving the final form and structure to the document that the customer will get. I also like that I can see more and more parts of this project with time. I learn how our project connects to other projects too. I especially like those issues that need to be solved for two projects.

Moreover, I like doing quality work, and also enjoy when things find their place in a system. During the production edits, this can happen. I hope our customers are satisfied with the quality of the documentation. Here, at Sigma, I feel that my work is valuable and I do useful things. I also like the flexible working hours.

Why did you choose to become an engineer?

Why not? 🙂

I liked mathematics during my high school years and was always interested in computers. That’s why I submitted my application to the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. During my university studies, I developed an interest in mobile phones, mobile networks, and mobile programming. My current project is related to fixed and mobile networks, so I feel that I can use my knowledge in my work.

What would you advise young girls who are just starting their career?

Dare to choose the career you always wanted, and don’t let others change your mind about it. If you choose to become an engineer, go fight for it and don’t let difficulties hold you back.

About Women in technology interviews
Technology is one of the most developed areas nowadays, as many new inventions come every day. The majority of businesses have now recognized that balanced and diversified work environment brings the best productivity. It also implies harmonious joint work of men and women. However, still, a small percentage of girls consider technology and engineering for their education and future employment. Therefore, we launched a series of interviews devoted to Women in Technology with Sigma Technology’s female employees to show that women are making a big change in technology and engineering world. #womenintechnology
