Sigma Technology Hungary takes part in the launch of a technical writing course

The Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) in partership with Sigma Technology Hungary has announced the launch of a new technical writing course called “Technical Communication in Industry and Academia. The course will cover a wide range of topics related to technical communication, including writing techniques, document design, and communication strategies. It aims to equip students with the skills needed to write clear and concise technical documents, such as manuals, user guides, and scientific papers meeting the requirements of both industry and academia.
Although technical writing as a discipline has grown a lot during the last decades, it is still regarded as a profession that – apart from people working in IT – not many people know about. As product information professionals at Sigma Technology Hungary, it is our ambition to share details about technical writing and raise interest among university students in this role. Engineers tend to work more and more often with technical communicators, and this trend is expected to increase in the future.

The future of technology relies on effective communication, so it is vital to support young generations on how to communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely. We are proud that from the spring semester of 2023 onwards, students of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) can enroll to the Technical Communication in Industry and Academia course. The course was planned and will be delivered as a cooperation between the university and Sigma Technology Hungary. During the course, starting in February 2023, students will have an opportunity to learn the art of creating technical documentation with an in-depth understanding of the required structure, style, and modularity.
Through this course, students will gain the skills necessary to restructure and rewrite input to improve the quality and user experience, understand the flow of information to create high-quality technical documentation, and use various means of information architecture appropriate to technical documents in digital environments. They will also learn about current tools and technologies associated with technical writing and the significance of technical illustration and instructional design.
Furthermore, the course includes lectures on technical writing in academia, aimed at improving skills necessary to enhance the quality of conference and journal papers on the level of technical communication.

(technical-communication.org) – the largest professional association for technical communication worldwide) has the same vision to grab every opportunity to highlight the importance of technical writing, so I was happy to invite tekom Magyarország as co-lecturer during our course to talk about the three main pillars (author, content, audience) of technical communication,” says Gabriella.
“This is definitely a great opportunity to empower our future engineers with competitive know-how in technical communication,” says Dr. Peter A. Kara from the Department of Networked Systems and Services at BME, who serves as the coordinator of this new course. Dr. Kara will deliver lectures on scientific writing during the semester.
