Lina, describe us your usual working day.
I work as an Information Engineer at Sigma Technology. My current assignment is at global manufacturing customer working with technical documentation and processes for operational technology security. A usual workday contains lots of meetings and discussions, attempts to understand customers’ needs and then transform them into technical documentation, working processes, and education material.
What do you value the most in your work?
In my work, I value the variation in work tasks, possibility to be creative, and interaction with different cultures and organizations. The assignment I have right now also includes testing and verification of the documentation and processes at the customers manufacturing sites globally, which allowed me to travel to such interesting places as Italy, Mexico, and Singapore.
It excites me that I see the value of the information I have created when I get feedback from the end users, and I enjoy being part of a new technology area as well.
Why have you chosen engineering?
I earned a Master of Science in Information Systems, and I find engineering very interesting as it gives me the opportunity to bridge technology and people.
Working within engineering, you are a part of the creation process, building for the future. You get a wide understanding of how things are built, and you are involved in the creation of solutions that will hopefully be used by future generations. Engineering also includes a lot of troubleshooting and continuous improvement, which I find very interesting and challenging.
What would you advise young girls, who are just starting their career?
Study hard and be open to new challenges. Don’t be afraid of trying your hand at different areas.
Your education is only a platform to start with; it is the path you choose after school that will define your career.
Seek a mentor for advice if you feel lost and don’t be afraid to ask your colleagues. They are humans, just like you!
About Women in technology interviews
Technology is one of the most developed areas nowadays, as many new inventions come every day. The majority of businesses have now recognized that balanced and diversified work environment brings the best productivity. It also implies harmonious joint work of men and women. However, still, a small percentage of women consider technology and engineering for the future employment. Therefore, we launched a series of interviews devoted to Women in Technology with Sigma Technology’s female employees to show that women are making a big change in technology and engineering world. #womenintechnology
