Why did you decide to work in the tech industry?
In high school, we had a great physics teacher who made science in general interesting, and this new interest turned me towards STEM. My teenager-self has decided that it is an interesting area, and I need that kind of challenge that learning mathematics and physics gave me, so this decision has gotten me into doing my B.Sc. degree in mechatronics then my M.Sc. degree in biomedical engineering. So yes, my teenager-self was idealistic and naive, but looking back now, it was worth it.
Before Sigma, I worked in the healthcare industry as a quality management intern and then as a junior development engineer. My work at the time required me to do a lot of documentation and document translations, which has made me do a post-graduate degree in specialized technical translation. That post-graduate degree then led me to Sigma Technology. I can happily say that I’ve found my place in technical writing because I enjoy learning and writing about STEM-related topics. So it is a perfect combination for me.
How can you describe your current role? What’s your responsibility area?
I write and maintain documentation for the development team of the client within the telecom sector. This includes maintaining user guides for multiple products and services, documentation for the developers, and a few quality management-related documents.
What career plans do you have for the future, and how do you see your further professional development?
For now, I know that I cannot get comfortable in my current role because that would certainly halt my professional development. The comfort zone is the silent killer of growth. I enjoy my current tasks and responsibilities, and I plan to do them as long as possible. Still, at the same time, I try to find areas that I can incorporate into my current tasks, learn new skills, and widen my existing knowledge base. One topic that draws my interest now is data analysis and data science, so my current goal for the year is to get to know this area a bit better.
What can you advise for women just entering the tech?
Feel free to love and learn about technology or any STEM-related topic. Feel free to find an area of interest within, even by combining it with another area, as I found my place in technical writing.
