Why did you decide to work in the tech industry?
Interested in a couple of fields back then, I thought of being an engineer in a racing team, linguist, or architect. The goal of working in software engineering appeared much later during secondary school. The fulfillment of accomplishing the final project of the subject ICT at school assured me that this was the right path for me. Considering my ability, interests, and the nature of software engineers, I have chosen computer science, particularly software engineering, as my career. I still think it is the best decision I have made in my life.
How can you describe your current role? What is your responsibility area?
Currently, I am working full stack in the automotive industry as I am keen on building and fixing every part of a software system. My responsibility is to help develop and enhance the developer portal, which provides information and support to the partners and external developers, exploring the possibilities of creating new products for connected services.
What career plans do you have for the future, and how do you see your further professional development?
Technically I plan to develop expertise in Java, frontend development, data visualization, and other interesting things I would come across. I believe I will still work as a software engineer after many, many years, just with more experience in some areas, as there is an immense amount of technical knowledge to learn and try out endlessly. Besides work, I hope I will be able to contribute to the communities by developing useful tools, helping in the maintenance of open-sourced projects, sharing knowledge, and others.
What can you advise for women just entering the tech?
I have never noticed obstacles for women entering the IT industry at all, nor encountered any issue or discrimination regarding gender at the workplace. Perhaps I was just lucky, but why bother caring about the stereotypes? My only advice is to focus on what you desire to do, keep evolving, and learn all the time. Your work will demonstrate.
