Why did you decide to work in the tech industry?

Coming from a background in creative work, spending years in art school, studying art history, and receiving a BFA in design – I finally realized that I’ve always preferred technology as a tool rather than using traditional crafts. Combined with my interest in producing genuine experiences for people, I decided to go where the user was: online. So I learned how to code. I got hooked.

How can you describe your current role? What’s your responsibility area?

At Sigma Technology, I have a combined role as a UX Designer / Front-End Developer. Being a multi-tool is a great experience because my code knowledge makes me efficient as a designer. I know if it’s going to work or not. Having a sharp eye for details and always being user-oriented helps me see the bigger picture when building a site. I work as a Front-End Developer for a car brand in my current assignment. I’m really excited about the work that we produce there.

What career plans do you have for the future, and how do you see your further professional development?

From my designer background, I know how important the process is, so I’m really looking forward to getting SCRUM master certified. Besides that, I’m eager to continue combining my skills as a developer and designer.

What can you advise for women just entering the tech?

Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. Your opinion and your experience have been waited for. Go for it. Also, connect with and stay in touch with other women you meet in the industry – even if it’s on social media. The more you see other women doing what you’re doing, the more natural it will feel for you.
