Sigma Technology’s Steer-by-Wire Simulator Accelerates Autonomous Future

Sweden takes a significant step toward the future of autonomous mobility. Sigma Technology has developed a Steer-by-Wire simulator—a breakthrough platform that enables automakers to safely test and validate intelligent vehicles and Drive-by-Wire control systems.
The simulator provides a complete driver environment — from hand-wheel actuators and control algorithms to communication and diagnostics. This technology replaces traditional mechanical steering with intelligent actuators, unlocking new possibilities for safety, flexibility, and design freedom.
“Steer-by-Wire will redefine how we experience driving,” says Mattias Gudasic, CTO at Sigma Technology Embedded Solutions. “Our simulator enables safe, fast validation of these next-generation systems and positions Swedish engineering at the heart of the autonomous revolution.”
Steer-by-Wire systems are still emerging and are used today by only a few pioneers. At the same time, the system is a necessity to enable autonomous driving. Sigma Technology’s platform helps accelerate wider adoption by creating a safe and efficient testbed for automakers and Tier 1 suppliers developing autonomous vehicle control systems and working with ASIL-D-level systems — the highest safety classification in automotive engineering.
“Our goal is to build a development and validation platform that supports innovation across the industry,” adds Mattias Gudasic. “By combining expertise in functional safety and system design, we’re creating a foundation for future intelligent drive systems.”
Sigma Technology’s Steer-by-Wire simulator is available for demonstration at the company’s Jönköping office and can be showcased at technology events or customer sites. For more information, please contact Mattias Gudasic.

About Steer-by-Wire
Steer-by-Wire is a new technology that replaces traditional mechanical steering with intelligent actuators, unlocking a new driving experience. Steer-by-Wire enhances vehicle dynamics, frees up design space, and enables autonomous driving.
The Steer-by-Wire system requires the highest safety-critical level in automotive, ASIL-D, to ensure redundancy, fault tolerance, and safe operation even under failure conditions, as no mechanical linkage or fallback is available.
Sigma Technology’s Steer-by-Wire simulator provides OEMs and carmakers with opportunities for traffic simulation across different scenarios, driver-in-the-loop testing, multiple steering ratios and angles, hard-end and soft-end stops, and force-feedback algorithms, among other features.
