More people die from smoky cooking than from malaria. Swedish-Zambian Emerging Cooking Solutions’ vision and mission are to change energy use in Zambia, “level up” energy solutions, innovate and bring knowledge from North to South and back. Their work is inspired by Cradle to Cradle-design, Circular Economy, and Social Entrepreneurship.
Emerging Cooking Solutions has developed a system with pellets for use in clean-burning cookstoves. The pellets come from biomass waste and therefore are renewable and sustainable. The system contributes to stopping deforestation, saving time, and improving health and household economy for the users.
Our achievements:
- Pioneered the use of pellets for heating in sub-Saharan Africa.
- Developed cost-effective institutional stoves now used by Zambia’s largest kitchens including Zambeef and The University of Lusaka.
- Developed the world’s cleanest burning low-cost stove.
- Built Zambia’s first pellet factory.
- Established southern Africa’s first company focused on replacing charcoal with pelletized waste-biomass for use in clean-burning pyrolytic stoves.
