Have you ever wondered how you could make your workplace even better? Have you had an idea for a fun team-building activity, a simple change to make the office more comfortable, or a fresh approach to make all-staff meetings more engaging? We’ve been there too—and that’s exactly why the Sigma Technology Hungary Ambassador Program was created.

HOW IT STARTED

Throughout the years, as more tenders and projects were won, the number of employees at Sigma Technology Hungary increased. As more and more colleagues. The management team has recognized that with the rapid growth, it was increasingly difficult to know and reach all employees individually, which was easily achievable with a smaller headcount.  There was a risk that the friendly and cozy atmosphere in Sigma could be lost, so, in 2017 Sigma Technology Hungary started the Ambassador program.

The first 15 members were recruited from different units of the company. The goal was to make sure that Sigma Technology Hungary as an organization keeps its values alive by reaching all colleagues and giving them the chance to meet, connect, grow and contribute.

The program had two focus areas:

  • A people-oriented company
  • Feedback and retention

Numerous mini projects have been established under these focus areas, many of which are still running today, such as the employee satisfaction survey, charity team building events, and Living Library evenings.

HOW IT IS GOING

The Ambassador program has lived through many team member and organizational changes, had its focus reoriented and went through numerous mini project updates to match the colleagues’ needs, but in the heart of it all is still a volunteer community, in which we, the Ambassadors pour our best ideas and passion into a big pot that we then all stir together.

Some of the events we have organized include a charity teambuilding during which the company cleaned up the yard of a summer camp before the children arrived, huge Halloween parties in the office every year, with costume contest, various party games, a quiz, and karaoke. We also organize sport-related activities several times a year, for different types of movement so everyone can find their favorite to participate in. Our team also tends to people’s art-related, more cultural side, with museum visits or urban exploring adventures.

The Ambassador Program reflects Sigma’s core values while offering a supportive environment to practice project management and leadership skills. Since it operates outside of daily work responsibilities, participants have the freedom to engage at their own pace, turning their passion into meaningful contributions. The ultimate goal is to build an even more inspiring and enjoyable workplace, where innovation, teamwork, and shared purpose drive both personal and professional growth.

BEING AN AMBASSADOR

But what makes someone volunteer to be an Ambassador? Above all else, it is the team. If you attend an event organized by our group of enthusiastic, creative, mindful people, you can feel the drive in our every step and see how effectively we all work together. Each of us pays attention to what needs to be done to run events smoothly, and we ensure that someone is always there to help out when needed. Teamwork makes the dream work — is a great slogan to describe the Ambassador team.

Another important factor that attracts people to join us is the chance to let their creative side shine and make the most of their ideas come true. In our team, you can present your ideas for company-wide teambuilding events, parties, charity work, sporting or afterwork events, and you are sure to find partners to help make it a reality.

One of our active Ambassadors, Gergő summarized his thoughts about being in the program: “My goal is to live a useful life, to be an active member of the community I happen to live in. That was what led me to apply to be a member of the Ambassador team at Sigma. At first, I did not have a clear vision on how to accomplish that, so I started with small tasks, helping others in organizing events. Later on, a few ideas popped up in my head and I started working out the details, assessed the related costs and possibilities, presented my ideas to the team and as a result, last summer we had a successful visit at the Svábhegy Observatory for 30 people, with a VIP program for our enthusiastic team. Feedback was good so other similar events followed. Thanks to my colleagues who came up with brilliant ideas for possible programs I was able to work on these. Whether it is organizing an event or just cleaning up the place after an eventful night at the office, I am driven by the fact that I know I am doing something useful.”

WHAT’S NEXT?

At the end of each year, we conduct a satisfaction survey to gather feedback from Sigma Technology Hungary employees. It allows us to receive direct input from colleagues about their needs and opinions.

We kick off the year with retrospective and year-planning meetings and also recruit new members. For 2025, we have already made some exciting new plans while maintaining well-received and long-standing events.

In the Ambassador program, all ideas are welcome and encouraged. We evaluate each idea to see how we can make it happen, and ask colleagues what they are interested in.

New ideas have already sparked for this year. We recently celebrated a fantastic Fettisdagen with semla and tomte-making, accompanied by Swedish games. Upcoming events include Passion Fair (a hobby “matchmaker” event), crafting workshops, an urban treasure hunt, and Impro Night.

Recently we have visited the Budapest Sewage Works Pte Ltd. Later, we would like to visit botanical gardens, facilities like the Inota factory and the laboratories at BME University.

3. Sigma for the Employees

Encouraging colleagues to engage in sports is an important mission for Sigma Technology Hungary. We have Sports Month, but event-based financial support is also available for attendance at sports events. For 2025, we would like to have more sports programs for employees. There is a Sigma team for Ultrabalaton, but our planned activities list also includes squash, hiking, cycling, urban walking, minigolf, and rowing.

We continue to offer regular and popular programs like Game Night with board games, Music Outlaws, Movie Night, RPG Night, Event Night (watching programs together), and Living Library. And no year goes by without Sigma parties, so after hosting the first party of the year with the Carnival, we will also plan to celebrate Halloween and Christmas.

All in all, there is a lot ahead for the Ambassadors, and these enthusiastic and dedicated people will keep working on building the community and showcasing the diversity of Sigma Technology Hungary.
