Apply to a Unique R&D Licentiate Program with Sigma Technology and Malmö University

Sigma Technology Solutions and the Internet of Things and People (IoTaP) research center offer you a unique opportunity to complete a two-year research project in the area of data-driven systems. During the project you will be employed at Sigma Technology Solutions, getting work experience and building your network, while cooperating with leading researchers in the area of Internet of Things at Malmö University.

The scientific focus of the project

The proposed industrial graduate school will address a research field of data-driven systems. Automated and semi-automated processing of digital information is of growing concern and interest for society and industry alike. The emerging Internet of Things (IoT) facilitates real-world data collection while advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and algorithms promise to automate or support decision-making on the basis of such data. To be successful, however, these systems need to offer a good balance between automation and human intervention.

The research student’s focus area is decided by a company and IoTaP together and is defined individually for each student within the scope of the research school: data mining, context-aware systems, and user experience. Apart from the individual focus, the research student will participate in research courses together with other graduate students at Malmö University and elsewhere. An individual study plan is decided by the academic supervisor, company mentor, and student together at the beginning of the studies.

Our vision of the project

Sigma Technology has the mission to make technology usable. The management of technical documentation is a core in many solutions we develop. The automation in both generation and presentation of documentation is creating new opportunities. One area we want to understand better is how the future of predictive maintenance of machines will work based on the fact that a lot of documentation is expected to be user-generated and yet needs to be associated with machine states. There are also open questions around remote support as well as how professionally generated contextual information fits into this picture.

Sigma will support with an industrial mentor for the student.
