BallersApp is a mobile app that connects sports players and enthusiasts worldwide. It allows users to find and follow other players, create content, and allow sponsors and agents to find talents around the world. With gamification, players can be rated to achieve points and raise their visibility. BallersApp has over 100,000 active users and is growing rapidly.
As a cloud-native app, BallersApp relies on AWS to power its backend services, such as user authentication, data storage, notifications, and analytics. However, as the app scaled, BallersApp faced two major challenges: managing AWS costs and ensuring security compliance.
Sigma Technology Cloud is a specialized Cloud Consultant company that helps customers optimize their cloud resources, reduce costs, and improve security. We partnered with BallersApp to help them achieve their cloud goals and deliver a better user experience.
Challenges
- BallersApp had a complex and old-implemented AWS environment, not leveraging the new services released by AWS for most optimization. They had no visibility into their cloud spending and usage patterns and often overprovisioned or underutilized resources.
- BallersApp had to comply with various security standards and regulations. They had to ensure that their AWS resources were configured securely, that their data was encrypted and protected, and that they had proper access controls and audit trails.
Solution
We provided a team to help BallersApp with their challenges:
- Cost optimization: Migrated their ECS Fargate to run on Graviton. By running on an Arm64-based processor, we could lower their costs by 20%. The initial measurements also show that the system’s performance increased by 10%. The assumption is also that the client’s CO2 footprint will become lower.
- Security compliance: By conducting a comprehensive security audit of their AWS environment, we could identify and assess various security vulnerabilities. We could also significantly enhance their security posture by providing tailored recommendations and strategies to mitigate those risks.
